What Does Window Tinting Have to Do with Skin Cancer?

You may be wondering what a blog for a window tinting company could possibly have to do with skin cancer.  Frankly, we wish skin cancer and cancer of any type didn’t exist at all.  Since it does, unfortunately, we thought we would address what window tinting can do for you in an attempt to ward off skin cancer.

We all know cancer can invade any part of our body.  It does not care if you are rich or poor, young or old, healthy or unhealthy.  It is completely unbiased on who it attacks.  Skin cancer is often thought of as the “least” of the cancers.  Many people think that you just get the cancer spot removed and merrily roll along with life.  Sadly, that is not always the case.  Melanoma is the most severe form of skin cancer.

Melanoma is caused by unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells.  This most often occurs from ultraviolet radiation.  What is the most common way to come in contact with ultraviolet radiation?  There is no getting away from it because the answer is “the sun.”  Yes, the sunshine that we are blessed with so much of the year here in Florida also produces the UV rays that are so dangerous to our skin.  There is an estimate that 178,560 people will be diagnosed with melanoma this year in the United States.  Almost half of those cases will become invasive, penetrating past the skin’s outermost layer.  This is where the trouble can start.

If melanoma is not discovered and treated in a timely manner, particularly if it has penetrated past the first layer of skin, it becomes more dangerous and can spread to other parts of the body.  The words “cancer” and “spread” are two words that none of us EVER want to hear in the same sentence.  Melanoma is not the most common type of skin cancer, but it does cause the most deaths.

It is caused, generally, by short but intense exposure to UV rays such as what you experience when you receive a sunburn.  If you have ever been riding in a car when the sun was streaming in through your window, you may have received a sunburn on one arm.  It seems weird to get a sunburn when we are confined inside a car, not even outside getting to enjoy those sunburn-causing rays.  Yet, it happens frequently.

This is where we, Solar Solutions, come into the picture.  With our high quality, state of the art window tint, we can help protect you from those harmful UV rays.  We have been doing business in Vero Beach for over twenty years.  We offer tint for vehicles, homes, and commercial buildings.  We really believe you should take the threat of UV rays seriously, and our window tint can truly help protect you.  If you live in the Sebastian, Satellite Beach, Melbourne, or Viera areas, please give us a call today.  We really look forward to doing business with you!
