With our transition from winter to spring, February seems to be that transition month. It’s shorter than the other months too which somehow makes us feel like the wait for spring is almost over! This time of year has some unique weather patterns that come with it. Here in Florida, winter is our dry season unlike much of the rest of the United States. We experience low-pressure systems that bring in dry weather and wind, as opposed to rain or snow like other states. Often in such weather, children and adults alike complain of headaches.
For some, it is just a dull ache letting them know that their head is there on their neck and it’s not in its happiest state. For others, they suffer from full-blown migraines. These cause different symptoms for different people, usually with some similarities. The main similarity is the horrible pain that accompanies a migraine. Some experience nausea. Some feel like a headache has settled behind their eye and for those few hours, the thought of having only one eye actually seems like a good idea. Most migraine sufferers will tell you they need to lie down in a dark, quiet room. Movement and light are the enemies.
Such weather changes can also make people feel irritable or “spun out”. Children often respond to these weather changes with a change in behavior. Some teachers report that they can tell a couple days prior to a storm’s arrival that it is coming based on the behavior of their students. It seems there is some evidence to back this up. So, what causes us to feel like this? Studies indicate that it probably has to do with low atmospheric pressure and low barometric readings. Many migraine sufferers can tell you that they can tell when the barometric pressure has dropped as they are lying in a dark, quiet room, completely still, with a damp washcloth over their eyes.
Well, at Solar Solutions we can’t change the weather on your behalf, as much as we’d like to help. But, we can help in other ways! We can come out to your home and give you a free estimate on tinting your residential windows in Melbourne. If you or your children have an adverse reaction to the weather changes this time of year, we can offer a little solace. By tinting your home’s windows, we reduce some of that glare that comes into the house which is a literal pain for those who suffer from migraines. Getting to retreat to your bedroom with tinted windows can really be helpful. In addition, it helps regulate the temperature in your home.
