While we don’t have months of unending snow, rain, and cold with no end in sight, we still have our version of winter here in Florida. Our average high temperatures in the winter are in the 60s and 70s with our average low temperatures ranging from the 30s to 50s depending upon which area of the state you reside. While this is not cold by the standards of snowy states, it is definitely cold enough to need your home’s heater, especially in the evening.
With such a great year-round temperature average our overall electric bills in Florida are not as outrageous as other places. Because of our somewhat temperate weather, we get used to reasonable electric bills, so when we do need to run the heater more, we might not like what we see when our electric bill arrives. There are some ways to help keep costs down and maybe run your heater a little less, though.
The most cost efficient temperature at which to set your thermostat in the winter is sixty-eight degrees. However, in Florida, sixty-eight degrees is kind of cold. When it is sixty-eight degrees outside, we might be considering turning on our heater when we get home. So, for us Floridians, while it is the most cost-efficient, we might want our thermostat set a bit higher.
A lot of people prefer sleeping in a cold room. The temperature suggested for optimal sleep is sixty to sixty-seven degrees, so setting your thermostat for the cost-saving temperature of sixty-eight degrees at night might be a good idea – good sleep and lower electric bill. At night, you can snuggle down in bed with a warm, fluffy comforter, jammies, and even socks and sleep well.
During the day if the house feels a little cold, but you want to keep that electric bill lower, there are a few things you can do. You can dress in layers, so as the temperature in the house fluctuates throughout the day, you can add or remove a layer. Wearing socks (especially fuzzy ones) and slippers is very helpful. The majority of your body heat escapes through your head and feet. Keeping your feet warm is a key to feeling warm. Additionally, drinking a hot beverage helps warm you from the inside out. You can warm your hands holding the hot mug too! You can drink coffee, tea, cocoa, or even warm water with lemon or lime in it.
A great way to keep the temperature in your house more moderate without as much fluctuation AND keep your electric bill down is by calling us at Solar Solutions to tint the windows of your home. We use the highest quality Solar Gard window tint. You can choose from different shades of tint, including clear tint. If you are in the Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, Sebastian, Melbourne, or Palm Bay areas, then please give us a call today for residential or commercial window tinting and start saving on your electric bill right away!
