Does Window Tint Protect During Hurricanes?

Does Window Tint Protect During Hurricanes?

People have a lot of questions about window tint because it just isn’t something you learn about unless you are looking into having it done.  Window tint is available for your vehicles and home, as well as commercial buildings if you own any.  It has many benefits.  Some people wonder if it keeps your windows from breaking and can, therefore, add to hurricane protection.

Window tinting in Fort Pierce has a LOT of benefits, but hurricane protection is not one of them.  While window tinting products keep improving, hurricane protection is not something they have developed yet in the industry.  Who knows? Maybe someday it will be available!

Window Tint Holds Broken Glass Shards Together

Window tinting does not prevent your windows from breaking.  It does help hold the glass to the tint if a window is broken, though, which prevents shards of glass from flying everywhere.  So, for instance, if someone breaks your tinted car window in order to break into your car, you should not have pieces of glass all over your car.  The shattered glass should basically stay together with the tint, but the window WILL be broken, perhaps lying on the seat of the car.  We hope that clarifies the safety feature that window tinting DOES provide.

Tinted Windows Prevent Damage From UV Rays

Along with preventing shattered glass from flying everywhere, window tinting protects you, your car, your home, and your office.  No, it does not offer protection from hurricanes, but it does offer protection from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun.  The fact that it protects YOU is the most important safety feature of window tinting.  UV rays are extremely harmful to our skin, even causing melanoma which is the most serious form of skin cancer.  It can even be fatal.

Window tinting protects the interior of your car, home, and office.  It helps prevent fading of furniture, flooring, discoloration of wall paint, and fading of artwork.  All of these can be very costly to replace, so the longer you can make them last, the better.  Window tinting blocks approximately 99% of the UV rays which cause such fading.

Window Film’s Protection Does Have Limits, Though

So, hurricane protection is not part of window tinting, but protection from skin damage caused by the sun, protection from the fading of expensive interior items, and protection from broken shards if a tinted window is broken ARE all forms of protection that an untinted window does not provide!
