4 House Window Tinting Myths

There are some common myths regarding tinting your home’s windows.  Solar Solutions wants to put an end to those myths so that you can see the value in choosing to tint the windows of your home!

#1 – Window Tinting Will Harm My House Plants

There’s nothing like bringing a little bit of the outdoors into your home.  Potted plants and flowers add vibrant color and life to your living space.  If you are blessed with a “green thumb,” then you may be leery of window tinting for fear that your home will be too dark for your beautiful plants to continue to flourish.  This is the first myth that we want to debunk!  Window tinting, rather than harming your house plants, can actually help protect them.  While still receiving the benefits of natural sunlight, your plants will be protected from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays.  Whereas your plant may have gotten burned by the direct sunlight coming through your windows in the past, they will no longer be subject to those intense rays.  Yes, window tinting may actually benefit some of your plants!

#2 – Window Tinting Will Make My House Too Dark

This is a common misconception which is why it is the second myth we will debunk!  Window tinting is primarily designed to block out harmful UV rays, the type that fades your flooring and burns your houseplants.  While a darker tint will block out some of the sun’s visible light, causing a room to be less bright, there are a variety of tint options to meet the desired effect you want to achieve for your living space.  We even offer clear tint which provides you with protection from UV rays without compromising the bright, sunny effect that you may wish to keep.  You may even want different levels of tint for different rooms.  For example, you may want a clear tint in the living room, but you may like a darker tint in the bedrooms to enable sleep.  We will work with you to choose the product that fits your needs for each room of your house.

#3 – My House Will Look Outdated

The window tint of today is not the window tint of your parents’ or grandparents’ era. That is why this is the third myth that we are debunking.

A local resident shared this with us: “I remember when my parents bought a house when I was thirteen (in the ‘80s).  The formal living room space had dark fake wood paneling on the walls, dark brown carpet, and do-it-yourself window tint on the windows looking out onto the front yard.  The first thing my parents did before moving in was tear down the paneling and peel off the window tint.”

That is probably what many of you picture when you think of residential window tinting.  But, that is NOT what we offer.  First, the quality of professional window tinting is leaps and bounds above that of do-it-yourself tint which may bubble and/or peel.  Second, as we mentioned above, we offer a wide variety of tints.  You can even have clear tint which won’t change the look of your house at all.  Take a peek at our residential gallery and you will see beautiful beachside homes with our professional window tint!  You will see that not only do they not look outdated, but they look classy!

#4 – Window Tinting Doesn’t Make a Difference

In debunking this myth, we have saved the best for last!  You will be amazed at the difference home window tinting makes.  By blocking over 99% of harmful UV rays, your flooring, furniture, window coverings, and artwork will all be protected from the fading and discoloring that UV rays cause.  This will save you money as these items will not need to be replaced as frequently.

Another benefit of residential window tinting is that you will save up to 30% on your utility bills.  Your air conditioning and heating systems will not have to work as hard to maintain a consistent temperature in your home because our window tint will help regulate the temperature.

Lastly, our window tinting helps provide safety for your family.  The reflective tint is a deterrent for would-be burglars as they cannot see the contents of your home, cannot detect if a guard dog resides there, and cannot be sure if people are home.  As additional security, in case of a window breaking, such as during a storm, our window tint helps to hold the shards of glass together so that they don’t fly everywhere causing damage to your home or, worse, harming your family.  As you can see, the benefits are substantial!
