Is Factory Tint Enough?

You made the exciting decision to buy a new car, or maybe just a new-to-you car, but either way, it is exciting!  You may have noticed that your window tint is not as dark as many other cars on the road.  If that is the case, then you most likely only have factory tint on your windows.

Factory tint is pigmented glass.  You cannot “undo” it, but you can go darker by having your windows tinted by a professional.  This is referred to as “aftermarket” tint.  It is applied to the windows and is not a part of the glass-like factory tint.

You may think you don’t want to “waste” money getting your windows tinted when they already came with tint.  It is important to know the facts before you make this decision, however.  Aftermarket tint provides ultraviolet (UV) protection of approximately 99 percent!  You will not get this level of UV protection from factory tint.  Factory tint also does not provide as much heat reduction as aftermarket tint.

These are both very important factors to consider.  UV protection protects both you AND your car.  It protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.  If you have ever arrived at your destination after hours on the road to find that one of your arms is sunburnt from being near the window in the car, then you can understand why this UV protection is important.  Apart from the discomfort of a sunburn, protection from UV rays is important to help in the prevention of skin cancer.

Protection from UV rays protects the interior of your car from damage caused by UV rays.  Yes, just like your skin, these rays can damage your car!  These rays are what cause your upholstery to fade and leather upholstery and dashboards to crack.  They can really take a toll on the interior of your car.  A sunshade in your windshield is helpful, but the sun doesn’t always only come in through the windshield!  What about the other windows?  They need protection too.

Heat reduction is also a very important factor, especially here in sunny Florida.  This helps your car not feel like an oven every time you open the door.  We think you will also like the benefit of your legs not feeling like they are being burnt when you climb into your leather seat.

So, when asking the question, “Is factory tint enough?”, particularly here in the Sunshine State, we can answer with a confident “NO.”  You really will benefit from aftermarket tint applied by a trained professional such as Brian Schauder at Solar Solutions.  Brian has been in the window tinting business for over twenty years.  He uses Solar Gard products which are the highest quality products on the market.  Solar Gard requires you to go through their certification program in order to carry and apply their products.  Solar Solutions is located in Vero Beach and serves all the surrounding areas with window tinting services from Sebastian and Port St. Lucie up through Melbourne and Viera. We look forward to doing business with you!
